Hoodia Diet Pills – How Does Hoodia Work

If you still remain clueless to the amazing new product called Hoodia, it is only a matter of time before you are hit by the news!  It has been touted as the new miracle supplement for those who want to achieve safe, effective weight loss.

Hoodia is a cactus-like plant which grows mainly in the semi-desert regions of Angola, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa.  It is thought that the San Bushmen, who live in the Kalahari Desert, relied on this plant to stave off their hunger and thirst when they went on their long and arduous hunting expeditions.  It is thought that they cut off the stem to Hoodia and ate this bitter-tasting plant.

There are well over thirteen kinds of Hoodia on the market today.  The only active ingredient that has been discovered in this plant so far is a steroidal glycoside called p57.  It is believed that only Hoodia contains this ingredient.

How Does Hoodia Work

First, it makes you feel less hungry.  Scientists who have isolated P57 found that this molecule is responsibe for eliciting the response of a feeling of fullness.  Normally, when you eat food, it turns into glucose.  As these levels increase in you body, Hoodia sends some signal to your brain telling you not to eat because you are still full.

Second, Hoodia turns off the desire you have to overeat.  This plant does two main things – it slows down your desire to eat and makes you feel full.  There are many reasons as to why people overeat – stress, emotions, social influence, etc.  Hoodia slakes this desire to eat and it is able to help break the emotional attachment you have to food.

Third, when your appetite is switched off, the Hoodia diet pill allows you to have rational, healthy food choices.  This is a great way not to only lose those unwanted pounds but to transition your eating habits to a lighter and healthier diet.

pure hoodiaIn view of the ever-increasing popularity of Hoodia, there have been no published trials in humans that conclude that Hoodia is either safe or effective in pill form.  One manufacturer called Phytopharm cited a clinical trial involving eighteen human volunteers.  It did show that those who took Hoodia were able to reduce their food intake by approximately 1,000 calories a day.

Today you can find Hoodia sold in capsules, powders, teas and liquid form not only in health food stores but in such major superstores.  A good source to locate Hoodia would be on the Internet.  You must be careful, though, that the product is not contaminated in any way.
